P2P to collect food donations at polls Nov. 3
Person to Person announced it will place food-collection bins at all Norwalk polling locations on Nov. 3 to stock its four food pantries, with volunteers collecting and weighing donations throughout the day.
Person to Person (P2P) announced Oct. 22 that it will place food-collection bins at all polling locations in Norwalk on Tuesday, Nov. 3, as part of an Election Day food drive to help fill its food pantries.
Volunteers will work in shifts throughout the day to collect the donations, which will later be displayed in P2P's pantries. All food collected will be weighed, and P2P said it will share the resulting impact numbers on its website and social media and with the local press as a community interest story.
P2P operates four food pantries. In describing the need for the drive, the organization said one in five children in Connecticut is food insecure and that nearly half of its food-insecure neighbors do not qualify for federal assistance.
Most-needed items listed by P2P include hearty soups, pasta and sauce, peanut butter and jelly, canned tuna and chicken, dried and canned beans, cereal and oatmeal, snack and granola bars, canned fruits and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, and rice, pancake mix and shelf-stable milk.
The organization summed up the effort with the message "Every Vote Counts. Every Donation Matters."
